CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Police in Chesterfield are looking for the suspect in a fatal shooting near Midlothian Middle School.
According to the Chesterfield County Police Department, the shooting took place at about 3:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 31 on the 14000 block of North Carriage Lane.
When they got to the scene, the responding officers found a man with a gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, the man was leaving his home on his way to work when he saw the suspect breaking into his car. He approached the suspect, who pulled out a gun and shot him.
The suspect ran away towards Coalfield Road and is still at large. Police believe this was a random incident and that there is no active threat in the area.
“We will be stepping up patrols in that area, but we have no other information on a suspect or a motive,” said Captain Michael Breeden of the Chesterfield Police Department.
